Maximilien Robespierre was born under the Ancien Régime in France and worked as lawyer in Arras until 1789, when he was elected deputy of the Third Estate of Artois (Estates-General). Until then, he wasn’t very popular but soon he became one of the most important figure of French Revolution. He’s known as the main leader of the Terror, killed on 10th Thermidor after Thermidorian Reaction. Sadly, this is what we could find on any history book; the only mention of his lifestyle is in his nickname, The Incorruptible. He was a kind and modest person, who wanted to create the Republic of Virtue after such a long time under monarchy and abuses of power. There’s so much to say about him, his friends, his life but even teachers often says he’s only a crazy tyrant (ps. once my ex teacher said Marat was a Girondist killed by a Jacobin girl lol) At this point, a curiosity about him: he loved oranges, that’s why I drew him in a sort of Orangerie (perhaps in the Tuileries Gardens?) together with his landlord’s daughter, Éléonore Duplay. He’s supposed to accompany her to a beautiful and not crowded bank of the Seine, that’s why she looks surprised. They were said to be friends, confidants, but also betrothed or lovers. I admire her. She was called Cornélie after Cornelia Africana and was a painter, helped her sister after Thermidor in prison and wore mourning for Maxime until death. She never married, thus she was known as the “Widow Robespierre”. The deep affection towards him never expired. Sorry for Brount’s lack, I can’t draw dogs xD I need practice. Citizens! Hope you like it
It's okay, I'm a sucker for anything that shows Maxime as who he really was. (i.e, not a mindless murdering psycho-nutter) And thank you for the llama!
Thank you for the fav!
(I mean "This is a nice homage you are given here!" xD)
Very nice
You're always so kind
And Cornélie is a very fascinating historical figure.
I agree with you
